CHAI DURING HOIST SHOWING SPINE

Chai in December 2015 being hoisted up after going down. She lost over 1,000 pounds in 8 months at the Oklahoma City Zoo before dying in a state of emaciation. Oklahoma City Zoo said there were “no red flags”.

Friends of Woodland Park Zoo Elephants has filed a complaint with the Oklahoma Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners against the Director of Veterinary Services at the Oklahoma City Zoo, Dr. Jennifer D’Agostino, over the death of Chai. We allege that Dr. D’Agostino was negligent by providing substandard care, disregarding indications of Chai’s failing health, and deceiving the public. We hope that the Board will conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, and take disciplinary action if it’s found that Dr. D’Agostino violated provisions of the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act. We have grave concerns for the remaining elephants at the zoo, including Bamboo, who suffers from ongoing, captivity-related medical issues.

This is disgusting! Set them free. Zoos are animal prisons. Close all zoos & marine parks! Humans suck. They kill everything.

I am so angry that poor Chai had to die this way. Woodland Park Zoo wouldn’t listen to pleas from citizens all over the country to send Chai & Bamboo to a sanctuary, so instead they sent them to a lesser zoo who apparently could not recognize a sick elephant when it slapped them in the face! Both Zoos are negligent of providing proper care for these elephants. They both should be banned from ever having elephants again & Chai & the remaining elephants at Oklahoma City Zoo should all be sent to a sanctuary!

This is so sad. Wild animals need to be freed and able to live out their lives in a sanctuary. Stop breeding them in captivity! That Vet needs to have his license revoked.

THIS IS DISGUSTING. ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR IT. FIRST OF ALL, ALL ANIMALS SHOULD BE IN A SANCTUARY, OR FREE. SECOND, ALL THE VETS, WHO SUPPOSEDLY TOOK CARE OF THIS ELEPHANT, SHOULD HAVE THEIR LICENSES REVOKED. THEY DID NOT DO THEIR JOB, AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO CARE FOR ANY OTHER ANIMALS.

  7. Michelle Dudek on 09 Apr 2016 at 6:13 pm #

Stop this cruelty and abuse and let them be free as it should be!!!

  8. Carol Dorn on 09 Apr 2016 at 7:04 pm #

This is absolutely terrible what Woodland Park Zoo & Oaklahoma City Zoo let happen to these elephants! They both should have their license revoked! Further more they should never be allowed to own another elephant and the remaining elephants should be sent to a sanctuary!

Please, no more animals in captivity! People need to show empathy, imagine if humans were subjected to similar conditions for no reason! These beautiful animals don’t deserve this! Please let them live a free life in a sanctuary!

  12. Debbie Kolaski on 09 Apr 2016 at 8:59 pm #

Please release the Elephants in your captivity as soon as possible. Elephants belong in the wild. Not cooped up in a Zoo.

  16. Thomas McIntyre on 10 Apr 2016 at 7:49 am #

Only a demon, separated from lucid vision would commit such atrocities against a helpless and innocent animal, an animal that has a compassionate family network.
    This
mistreatment of elephants is uncivilized, criminal.

  17. Babette Lewis on 10 Apr 2016 at 9:51 am #

This is really shameful, they should close this zoo down and definitely never allow them to have any wild animals for any reason! NO MORE WILD ANIMALS, NO MORE ZOOS! WE’RE TIRED OF THE ABUSE, STOP IT NOW~!!

  18. susan shawket on 10 Apr 2016 at 10:47 am #

This is horrendous cruelty for an elephant to endure. Those responsible for her neglect should be severely punished and all elephants should be released into a sanctuary where care and attention is vital. NO MORE DEATH ZOO’s NO MORE DEATH CIRCUSES.

This is horrendous cruelty for an elephant to endure. All those responsible should be severely punished. NO MORE DEATH ZOOS NO MORE DEATH CIRCUSES. All the animals in these places should be rehomed into sanctuaries, so they can be with their own kind… looked after and cared for.

  20. Beth Scott on 10 Apr 2016 at 4:19 pm #

you monsters! You live like that you assholes.

  21. Sandy Loney on 10 Apr 2016 at 6:49 pm #

These explicit photos tell an observer everything they need to know. There is no excuse for an elephant to lose this much weight, be this weak, and obviously suffer from extremely poor health while her zoo caretakers claim there were no red flags with her health. Total incompetence, neglect, abuse, and mistreatment are just the beginning. Shut this place down! Move all the remaining live animals to sanctuaries to live out their lives. Humans should be ashamed!

  22. BRIDGET HELLIER on 11 Apr 2016 at 4:43 am #

ITS OBVIOUS THIS PLACE NEEDS TO CLOSE DOWN , AND ANY ANIMALS THERE RESCUED TO A SANCTUARY BEFORE THERES ANY MORE BARBARIC CRUELTY, IN FACT ALL ZOO SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN, THIS IS 2016

  23. Carole Fraser on 11 Apr 2016 at 10:32 am #
